Welcome back to those of you reading my blog! Have you ever been told you have an old soul? Well, my mom always told me that I do, and I couldn't agree more. I feel that I was born in the wrong generation. Technology is not for me, and I feel like this whole generation is based around technology. Everything I do seems to go wrong when I use technology. My parents, who grew up in the 80s, always tell me how different it was back then. Riding their bikes across town, playing outside with their friends all the time, and not having to worry about anything. I think the world back then was a naive world. A world where you didn't go outside and have fear. Now, we have news at the tip of our fingers, and people have become frightened. My parents would never let me go ride my bike to a friend's house across town because everyone has become so aware of the negative aspects around us. Also, people today are so connected to their phones, and there's barely any social interaction. I myself have been sucked into the phone loophole, I find myself on it for hours either on tik tok, facetime, or Snapchat, and I hate it. I don’t want to be like this, but that's how everyone my age grew up. Most of us are on technology 24/7, and we have all adapted to a technology-based life. There are some benefits to technology, but I would much rather live in a world without all this high tech. I personally think that growing up in the ’80s would be more my type of lifestyle, a life where technology and news on all social media platforms would not be an option. Do you like growing up in 2020, or would you rather live in a different time period?
Wow. I could not relate more. I always talk about this with my parents and they always tell me the same thing. It was different for them. They had the social interaction that we do not. I hear stories about them skateboarding down a mountain to get to the beach and going to different cities in Israel by stopping different cars on the street. To me that sound abnormal because I would be scared to get in a car with a stranger because that is what we grew up to think. I 100% would rather live in a different time period as well.
ReplyDeleteHi Diana, I totally agree! While technology is definitely useful in many ways, I miss when our lives didn't revolve around it. I much rather go hiking or biking with friends than just going on our phones or looking at TikToks. I also think what you said about the news is very true. Now that we are constantly looking at the media, it's easy to constantly be seeing upsetting stories. I feel like society is a lot more afraid now in general, and it's sad that, nowadays, you can't even walk anywhere alone at night without being so paranoid.
ReplyDeleteHi Diana, I totally agree with you! Technlogoy has taken over the world and there is no going back. It is sad as we lose lots of human interaction because we are on ur phones so much. I remember when I was younger and there were no iphones around my life and the way I hung out with my friends was different. We did more outside activites and talked to eachtoher, but know it is completely different and we are always on our phones when spending time together.
ReplyDeleteDee, I love this post! I grew up in the 70s and 80s, and it was definitely a different time. I appreciate the fact that you recognize the difference being our understanding of the dangers around us rather than an actual difference in danger. Many people don't recognize that it's about what we have access to rather than what is actually happening differently.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a kid, I used to walk or roller skate to my best friend's house from the time I was probably 7. We would play all day long and then head home for dinner time. Now, it's hard to get kids off of their phones or computers or video games. And social media has its benefits, but I feel like overall it is worse for people's mental health.
