So, what's going on in California that is causing all of these people to move out, and why now?
An easy answer would be to just say that all of these people left to avoid the high taxes, but I believe that the problems in California go a lot deeper than that, or else the same "mass exodus" would be happening in other places with high taxes like New York, Vermont, or Maine.
In recent years, California has seen some of its largest and most dangerous wildfires, has had terrible droughts, forced certain neighborhoods into electrical blackouts to avoid overheating by the electrical system, and has experienced a homeless crisis that is arguably worse than any other state. All of this is happening in the state that is home to silicon valley, a place that is supposed to bring minds together to solve our problems. Without getting into why all of this is happening to avoid this blog being classified as a political rant, I would like to say that these are the reasons that are causing this "mass exodus", but even these reasons aren't enough to get people to move out of California. These events have been taking place for a while, and native Californians are only starting to move out now, so there must be something else.
The obvious answer to this "why now" question is because of the Virus. This virus has exposed to the general public the fact that these issues have real consequences and that they are not going away any time soon. People now had time to contemplate their life and have realized that California isn't the same place that these people called home tens of years ago.
Ultimately, every place has its problems, but the problems with California have gone too far for any sane person to deal with. Would you leave California if you lived there today?

This well written article really exposed the dangers of living in California. Interesting idea that California could just become uninhabitable, but safety of citizens always has to be first. I probably would not leave yet.
ReplyDeleteThis blog post made me realize how tragic the current events in California are. I love watching Joe Rogan's podcast on Youtube and Shapiro's Daily Wire, so I actually heard about the news of them leaving as soon as they talked about it. The state of California has to solve these issues because if I lived there, then I would most likely be running away!
ReplyDeleteHi Isaac! Please change the term "China Virus" to the actual name of the illness (Covid-19). While I know it was inadvertent on your part, the term you used is racist and offensive.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
Hey Isaac! I totally agree that many people are leaving California due to its poor conditions. Also, you forgot to mention the major drug addiction problem that California faces where many people are using heroine in public. Also, I think you could have talked more about statistics like the homless and poverty rates to strengthen your argument.
ReplyDeleteI already spoke to you, but I am including these articles for you and others to read that explain the negative effects of calling Covid-19 the "China Virus." You still might not agree/understand, but please read them :)

ReplyDeleteI agree with you on what you're saying, but what struck out to me on your blog was when you said "China Virus". like come on, just say Covid-19 or Coronavirus because China Virus is an incorrect term for this pandemic.
ReplyDeleteDude what is wrong with you. Why would you go out of your way to call it the "China virus" when you know that's offensive. I guess it tells us a lot about you. I hope for your sake that you didn't really mean it.
