Maya Melamed 1- less homework for online school

I have one word for online school this year, draining. Last year in online school, I had no problem sitting through the classes and actually enjoyed it. Now after the first class, I feel so tired and feel like I'm about to fall asleep. It's so hard for me to sit in my chair and just focus. I can't stop yawning throughout the day because after each class I feel even more exhausted. I think part of the reason is that this year the classes are longer. The worst part is when I'm finally done with school I can't leave my computer because then I have homework. All I wanna do is fall asleep, and I'm never that type of person that would be able to fall asleep in the middle of the day. This is why I think we should be getting less homework. I feel like the teachers need to understand how hard it is already to have our eyes glued to our screens for hours and then adding more time to that to do homework. I understand that we need to still have homework, but I think they shouldn't give as much knowing our situation. It's already hard enough having to stay home too, so the only other option is to go outside of our houses. It's hard to do that when you don't have the time. Another reason why I feel like we shouldn't get so much homework is that sometimes we can get overwhelmed, especially if you are the type of person to get anxious with schoolwork like me. Even though feeling overwhelmed would happen at school and at home, it's different because the anxiety is worse at home since we don't have much to do to get our mind off of it. The point is, I think with everything going on we would feel better if we weren't stuck on our computers all day doing work.

How do you guys feel about the amount of homework we are getting?

  1. I agree with what you are saying. I also feel that it is already tough enough to be sitting for many hours in a day staring at our computer screens, and it the amount of homework can be lowered, it will beneficial for all of us. Online also sometimes make me tired, and even gives me headaches at times; giving less homework will likely help out with that.

  2. I completely agree with you. It is very hard for me as well to look at the screen 24/7 because most of the time the homework is also online. I also get anxiety like you, so I do understand what you are saying. The day is very draining and most people do not understand how it can be draining when all we are doing is sitting at home, but it is not "just sitting at home". It is much more because our eyes are working 24/7 and we are staring at our screens. We also barely have breaks throughout the day to keep our eyes off the screen.

  3. I totally agree with you Maya. I feel that we are getting a lot of homework and that should be lowered. I never really have enough time to go outside because I'm too busy doing school work online. Screen time is already a problem for most teens, but online school plus online homework has really taken this to the next level. I believe homework is beneficial when it comes to grasping material, but too much of it just defeats the entire purpose. Students should be more encouraged to go outside, exercise, and do some other activity besides staring at a computer screen all day. Ever since online school, I've been having frequent headaches.
