Ethan Wirtschafter- Week 8- The Small Victories Count

The Small Victories Count. A major way that I have found success in my life is by celebrating the small victories. I find that by doing so, it helps me gain momentum and strength to take on bigger tasks and challenges. Here are some examples of small things that help me tackle harder problems. For example, in the morning, every day, I make my bed. While it is a small victory, it is a good way to start off the day. It is a small sense of pride and accomplishment and it prepares you to take on the bigger issues of the day, as you have just completed one of the many challenges that will be thrown your way. And if by chance you have a terrible day, you will come home to a nicely made comfortable bed that may cheer you up, or give you the strength to take on another task such as getting another assignment out of the way. Speaking of school work, when I feel overwhelmed with too much homework or studying, I like to make a list and put the small things on top so I can start knocking off assignments and gain momentum. When looking at the list of many assignments it can be intimidating and can cause one to not want to start, but by getting rid of many little assignments the list condenses. Finally, I enjoy putting on my tefillin every morning and praying because it is a great way to start my day. It makes me say aloud what I am appreciative of and reminds me of things many people often forget to be thankful for such as being able to breathe, walk, speak, hear, eat, and live healthily. It also makes me think about my day, my goals (short and long term), and ask G-d for help in areas where I need a boost. This is another small but meaningful victory that I like to claim at the beginning of the day, and it gives me energy and strength to fight through the day and stand up to whatever life throws at me. Let me know what you guys personally think about each of these tips. Will you start to use these in your daily life?

  1. Hi Ethan, I thought this was good advice! I also think doing small productive things in the morning make a difference and help brighten your overall mood. I always use an agenda book for homework assignments or general work I need to get done, and I find it really helpful. I agree that it’s really satisfying being able to gradually complete each assignment and shorten your to-do list. Praying or even just thinking of three things you are grateful for in the morning is such an uplifting way to begin the day, so I’d recommend this to everyone too.

  2. I never really though about things like that. Never have I ever believed that making my bed can have an impact on my day the way you explain, but after reading this, I'd like to be more appreciative about all the extremely small things I do in one day! Thank you for the great advice!

  3. Hi Ethan, I love the advice. I think that this is something that I need to do more. I tend to overthink things and get disappointed when too many things don't go my way. I think I will be happier with myself if I do this more often.
