This week's Parsha, Parshat Noach, is about how Hasham destroyed all civilization on Earth with a flood, only leaving Noach and his family alive in order to rebuild society. He felt that it would be better to destroy the world and restart, rather than trying to fix the problems with what the world was. He could have tried to make all of the people act better, or even try to change their minds about doing evil by showing his presence to them. But, instead, he chose to destroy the world, something he just spent 7 days creating, and start from scratch. This teaches us that sometimes, it is better to restart something so that the base of it is not corrupt, rather than trying to build up from a corrupt base. If there was no flood, people would just look back to that time and see the people as role models even though they were evil people. In relation to Corona, a lot of people are choosing to rethink some of their important life decisions during this time as to whether or not they made the right choice and what to do about it. People who made poor decisions in the early stages of their lives are now given the chance to restart from before their mistake because of the amount of free time that this virus opened up in everyone's life. Do you think that it is better to restart from a bad decision you made or work off of the mistake?

Hi Isaac, that's a good question. I think it depends on the situation. Everyone makes mistakes, it's just a part of life and growing up. I think if someone makes a minor mistake, they should work off of the mistake, acknowledge it, try not to do it again, and move on. On the other hand, if someone makes a major mistake, then I think they could restart and renew themselves as a person. Of course, I only believe in this as long as the person still takes responsibility for what he/she did and prevents himself/herself from making it in the future. I think if you ignore mistakes you made in the past, they’ll just end up haunting you and you’ll never learn.
ReplyDeleteVery thought invoking post Isaac. I personally think mistakes can't have a reset button, and you need to own up and slowly gain back what you lost.
