Dori Baron, Week 11- Supporting Small/Local Businesses

Hi everyone! Welcome to another blog. This week, I’ll be telling you why it’s important to support small and local businesses. Recently, I was searching on Etsy, a website I haven’t browsed in several years, in search of comfortable, “cuter” face masks that actually fit me. I was impressed to see the really good selection, as well as how many talented people and artists there are. It’s incredible! There are so many unique, cool items to choose from, and let’s just say that I found masks galore.

I finally settled on a few masks and checked out, excited that I would be getting some better masks to wear and helping out smaller businesses. I later noticed that after my order was confirmed, one of the shop owners I purchased from even sent a personal note saying how grateful she is and how much she values each customer. Even though it may not seem like a big deal, it made me happy knowing that I helped to brighten someone else’s day. This is just one of the many reasons you should consider buying from small/local businesses. In fact, here’s a source with 43 more!

To sum up a few reasons, from the link above, you’re helping to make innovation possible, to fund great, creative ideas, to aid real people, to contribute to someone’s dream, and to bind communities together. Especially with this pandemic, it’s been difficult for many people to make as much money, so these at-home businesses are critical for some people to make a living! Hand-made items also tend to be more high-quality, sustainable, personal, and individualized, so you’re not only helping another person out but getting a great product too. Let me know if you like to support small/local businesses, and if so, which ones. If you don’t support any, comment down below whether you’re considering to start doing so after reading this post!

  1. Hey Dori! I think it is so important to support local or small businesses, and it's great that you are spreading that message! I have bought from several small businesses during Corona since many are struggling during this time. Thanks for sharing more to support!

  3. Hi Dori, I think supporting small businesses is very important. When you purchase from a small company it makes an impact in someones life whereas a big business does not appreciate your sale.

  4. Hi Dori, I think what you said about the store owner personally reaching out to you to thank you is AWESOME. I 1000000% agree with you that we need to support small, local businesses at all times, but even more especially during the pandemic. Not only do we, as consumers, appreacite the product, but the sellers and local business owners are forever thankful. It's a win-win :)
