Hi guys so i've recently been doing the From March to Miriam program again. We took part in this program in 8th grade and for those of you who don't know it's basically being paired up with a Holocaust survivor. The difference this time is that we don't go with an adult instead it's only kids. We visit them once a month and call them weekly before Shabbat starts. My friend Shira and I were paired up with a survivor named Rosie and she is so sweet. When we go over to her house, we always end up staying for such a long time. Rosie tells us all about her life in Paris before the war. She really enjoys being able to talk to the next generation of Jews. She shows us pictures of her family and offers us basically everything in her house to eat. Before we come over, she bakes especially for us. The last time when we went over, we brought food and decorations with a Sukkot theme. The package included honey, a honey cake, Sukkah decorations, and crossword puzzles. Depending on the month, there is a different theme that coordinates with the holidays. The program really needs more volunteers especially because of COVID. For many of the survivors, this is there only interaction much past the grocery store and doctors appointments. They really enjoy the company and being able to socialize. If anyone is interested please text me as they need more volunteers and I will give your number to my brothers friends who run it.
