Dori Week 17- A Brighter Future

Hi everyone! For this week’s blog post, I will be addressing the question,”Do you think the future will be brighter or darker than today”? My response is that I think the future will be brighter than today. While there is a lot of craziness going on in the world right now, and I tend to worry about a bunch of different non-ideal possibilities, I think it is important to be optimistic in terms of looking towards the future. After all, while the media tends to predominantly focus on negative things going on in the world, I think there are auspicious developments simultaneously occurring that will improve the future.

For instance, technology will most likely continue to advance and make various tasks even simpler for our daily lives. With technology improving, many different aspects of life can benefit, ranging from medicine and business to transportation and communication. Specifically, more medicines, vaccines, medical device inventions, and healthcare technologies will most likely be available, which can both save lives and help the economy. In relation to lives, the life expectancy also continues to rise as years go by and societies advance. For example, in the year 2000, the average life expectancy in America was 73.6, and by 2019 it rose to 76.8. Similarly, child mortality has decreased over the years, even in developing economies. However, this data does not take into account the over 2,400,000 lives lost from the coronavirus globally. The future should look brighter, though, with more widely available vaccines and hopefully better general preparation for health crises.

Also, this generation in particular has seemed to become especially active in social awareness, civic involvement, and new forms of education, regarding different societal challenges around the world. Specifically, more organized movements and efforts are continuously being created to fight injustice, mistreatment, and discrimination towards various marginalized, disadvantaged populations. Environmental awareness and justice are also being taken more seriously, especially by Gen-Z, so this gives me a lot of hope for the future because the Earth will hopefully become greener for everyone. There are also a lot of these educated Gen-Zers who will one day be able to make an even bigger impact on society by becoming congresspeople, doctors, lawyers, and such. I am excited to see the change that will come!

Let me know in the comments if you think the future will be brighter too, or if you think it’ll be darker instead. Also, let me know why and/or what you think about anything I mentioned in my post!

  1. Hey Dori! I completely agree with you. I also believe that our future will be brighter. Like you said, our generation really has risen up and fight for what they believe in. I feel that our goal for the future will be change. Another thing I enjoyed about how you explained that we should be optimistic. You need to approach everything with a positive attitude, like our future!
