Romi Avidor Week 16. A New Kind of Halftime Show
As we know, the halftime show of the superbowl is something everyone looks forward to whether you enjoy watching football or not. Every year the biggest artists perform at the halftime show. This year it was the Weeknd. Many things were different about this years halftime show because of the global pandemic.
Because of this pandemic, for the first time in 55 years there was no stage on the field rather the stage was in the stands due to covid protocols. They want to prevent contact between coaches, players, and fans. Usually, the stage would be on the field and fans would be allowed to surround it and try to get as close as they can to the performer. In order for them to keep safe, all the performers and crew members had to take covid tests prior to the rehearsals and performance. At one of the rehearsals they had he stood and looked and said, “it’s kind of empty”. This year only 25,000 people were allowed to come which for the situation we are in is still a lot, but usually the capacity is 65,000. To make the stadium seem more full, they added cardboard cutouts of fans in the empty seats. This was the second half time show that was part of Jay Z’s production team. They knew that the pandemic has changed everything for artists because there have been no performances in a while. However, the production team did not back down from having a live performance.
I personally love the Weeknd and his music. I have been to one of his concerts before and I really enjoyed it. I think it was very important to have a live performance at the Super Bowl evben with the measures that had to be taken because after such a tough year many people had something to look forward to. It would bring some life to the pandemic and it shows that if all the precautions are taken they are able to put on a show. If you haven’t seen the half time show here is a video!

Hi Romi. I agree that they needed to continue on with having a half time show even during COVID. I didn't think that the performance was that great though, especially in the middle when the Weeknd was in the glowing hall spinning around just because it kind of made me dizzy. I don't know if it is just over the past few years when I started actually paying attention to the halftime shows, or if has always been like this, but I always find the halftime shows to be way too overhyped the few months before the superbowl, and then the shows always either turn out average like this year's performance, or awful like it was last year and the year before, in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteHi Romi, I really enjoyed his performance. I think they did the best they could considering the circumstances with covid. I also think it was good that they had a halftime show this year. Even if people didn't think it was that good, its better than nothing. So many people, including myself, look forward to the halftime show more that the game itself.
