A white headmaster at a New York catholic school has recently resigned after forcing a black student to kneel and apologize “the African way.” He was recently temporarily removed after a mom, Trisha Paul, went to the press after the treatment her 11-year old son had. St. Martin de Porres School in Hempstead released a statement saying, “The leadership of St. Martin de Porres Marianist School continues to review the incident in question to ensure that it is never repeated again in any form," the statement read. "It is important to assure students, parents, and faculty that this incident does not reflect our long, established value of respect for the individual or the established protocols regarding student-related issues.”
This all started when Paul realized her son had been looking quite sad after school one day. He told her he’d been sent to the headmaster’s office after working on an assignment during designated reading time. Apparently, the son’s teacher tore up the assignment and sent him to the office, when the headmaster forced him to kneel in apology before the teacher.
Paul went to go speak to the headmaster following what she heard from her son. She told the headmaster that he was “humiliat[ing] and degrad[ing] [her] son,” but told the press she felt as if she wasn’t getting through to him. Paul has removed her son from in-person classes, which he now attends remotely to avoid further harsh treatment. How do you feel about this?
