Week 19, Aly Strauss, I Can’t Fall Asleep

Week 19, Aly Strauss, I Can’t Fall AsleepStrategies to promote better sleep in these uncertain times - Harvard Health Blog - Harvard Health Publishing

Hi to whoever reads this blog! This is gonna sound really weird, but I can’t sleep often. What I mean by that is that I can’t sleep during the day, or on busses/other modes of transportation. It’s not that I choose not to, I physically can’t. It’s especially hard on airplanes (especially in camp) because everyone else sleeps the whole plane ride, and I’m just bored out of my mind. Even in camp; we go on field trips every Thursday and trips are usually two to three hours. Everyone else is asleep, and I’m just staring at the floor, or if I’m lucky, out the window. Sleepovers are the worst. Somehow, my friend go to bed so early, like 11:30 pm, and I’m just up for at least 5 in the morning.

The reason behind it’s unclear, but it’s always been like this. There are some ups to it though. I’ve never slept in class before, which in my opinion sound pretty psychotic to say. Also, there are some friends (a few camp friends) that don’t really sleep either so at night, when the counselors slept, we’d sneak out and run on the track/eat candy! Also, it’s funny because whenever I see my camp friends and we sleepover in their basements, if one of them gets nauseous, or they’re just up, they whisper my name and it’s the funniest thing, because they just assume I’m up. Wow! Some things are just weird, like why don’t I sleep as much as others? The weird thing though is that when I don’t get enough sleep, I get a migraine the rest of the day. Does anyone else have this problem? If so, what do you do when you’re bored on planes?

  1. Hi Aly
I would say I relate to this but I just don't at all. I fall asleep so easily anywhere. Especially during the day and on long bus and plane rides. Something about the engine and the noise it makes lulls me to sleep I think. I actually fall asleep way easier on busses then in my own bed.

  2. Hey Aly!
I actually can't relate to this. I can sleep anywhere and for a very long time. I always sleep on airplanes and long bus rides. Also, I fall asleep in seconds everyday lol.
