Week 20, Aly Strauss, Kids Ate Hand Sanitizer?
About 500 children ingested hand sanitizer. They ended up having to be treated by the Indiana Poison Center at IU Health in 2020, and this is still continuing. This is considered insane since alcohol tastes disgusting to most people, but since we are in a pandemic, there’s more hand sanitizer than every inhouses. Some hand sanitizers though do have cartoon characters on them which might make it seem or appear edible to children. If kids ever did eat hand sanitizer though, they’d have to call poison control, since consuming alcohol at a young age isn’t the best idea.
The symptoms are actually pretty surprising! The symptoms are drunkenness! Apparently, consuming a lot of hand sanitizer will give the consumer symptoms of being drunk like: dizziness, slurred speech, and tiredness. This is crazy since it is believed that hand sanitizer, and drinks aren’t the same type of alcohol, but they are still both alcohol.
Since kids are eating poison, scientists are telling parents to leave hand sanitizer in places where kids can’t get to it. They also suggest not getting pretty bottles, and to just get regular bottles without cartoons all over it. They also suggest to watch your kid when they are using hand sanitizer.
Why the heck would kids try to eat hand sanitizer? It probably tastes horrible since it’s mainly made up of alcohol. If any other kid tried hand sanitizer, it is expected for them to spit it out. I guess since it’s corona, they can’t taste it anyways! Haha so funny!

I cant even stand the smell of hand sanitizer so I could not imagine eating it. i guess with corona hand sanitizer is everywhere and some kids just cant resist the clear substance. Too answer your question, I would not eat hand sanitizer even if it looked cool.

ReplyDeleteI have never heard of this. I don't think I would be able to stand the taste since I already hate the strong smell like dee said. I think kids are seeing it so much now and seeing everyone carry it and they are getting confused. Even if hand sanitizer looked cool, I would not eat it. It would just taste like chemicals.
