As I'm typing this, more details are being released about the very recent and very depressing shooting that took place a couple hours ago (Thursday night) at a FedEx facility in Indianapolis near the Indianapolis airport. So far what we know is that the shooting happened very quickly and suddenly. The shooter got out of his car, shot and killed 4 people outside, then went inside the facility and killed 5 others, including himself. 5 additional people were taken to the hospital with injuries, and one other was treated at the scene for another undisclosed injury. This marks the ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTIETH mass shooting in America this year. Yes, this year. Yes, we are in mid-April. (definition of a mass shooting is "four or more persons shot in one incident, at one location, at roughly the same time.") (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_mass_shootings_in_the_United_States_in_2021)
So far, Indiana FBI and police have said that it's too early to speculate over the motive of the shooting. They said that no altercation or arguments took place and that the perpetrator was able to kill those and himself before police arrived at the scene. Police also know that the shooting was done with a rifle, and family members and loved ones of the FedEx employees there have been waiting at a Holiday Inn near the facility for hours waiting until the deceased are ID'd.
With yet another incident resulting in multiple people dead, it brings about the never-ending argument over automatic weapon availability in this country. I'm not going to get into my opinions and why it is morally one of the most idiotic laws in all 180 countries in the world because I dont wanna argue with Ethan and Isaac in the comments but hopefully in our lifetime we will see the day that the NRA dissolves and its founders burn in hell :)
Hi Dan, I definitely feel something needs to be done about the gun laws in our country after all the horrific events that have taken place in just the past few years alone. It is unacceptable that our country has been 150 of these shootings in less than 5 months into the year; this issue needs to be a main priority to the government.
ReplyDeleteHi Dan. I think it's absolutely terrible and saddening that we've already had 150 mass shootings this year. Mass shootings shouldn't be a normal occurrence in this country. Why do people have to fear going shopping or going to a FedEx facility now? This problem has been going on for far too long, and as Hunter said, the government should seriously be making reducing gun violence a main priority.
ReplyDeleteHi Dan, what happened in the FedEx facility was terrible, and I think that the person who perpetrated the shooting should go to jail for life and possibly face the death penalty. I don't think that not allowing people to purchase semi-automatic weapons like a handgun will solve the issue. People should have the right to self protection, and with proper training and background checks should be able to purchase a weapon. There have even been studies done that show that 98% of mass shootings happen in gun free zones (https://crimeresearch.org/2018/06/more-misleading-information-from-bloombergs-everytown-for-gun-safety-on-guns-analysis-of-recent-mass-shootings/), which to me makes it seem obvious that not allowing the right people to carry guns does not solve the problem, and that a better solution to this would either be to tighten up security in these gun free zones, or depending on the reason for the gun-free zone, get rid of them.
ReplyDeleteHi Dan, this is so terrible and makes me so upset. This world has become crazy and scary to even live in. The other day I heard about a shooting that happened in a grocery store and that completely shocked me. These shootings are happening everywhere and somethin needs to be done.
