The NFL has officially begun. On Sunday, September 13th, there were 13 NFL football games that happened. The first games since early February. It was such an amazing experience to watch opening week again, and I'm so happy now I'll have something to do on Sundays.
There is an interesting debate going around recently about the NFL and its coronavirus protocols and safety measures. For example, players are no longer allowed to swap jerseys with a player of the opposing team at the end of the game because it isn't socially distancing, but weren't these players out there on the field just 10 minutes ago tackling each other? They're trampling and brawling all game, everyone on top of everyone, but post-game interaction between players is where they draw the line? I don't know, just seems weird to me. Another covid regulation that the NFL has implemented, but which isn't nearly as controversial as the last, is that every coach, staff member, ball boy, and anyone else on the sidelines must be wearing a facial covering. I obviously wholeheartedly agree with this rule and it's smart and protects others, but strangely after only one week of football, multiple coaches were sent "sharply written memos" reminding that they need to wear masks. Funnily enough, the head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs called Andy Reid used a whole face covering while coaching his team. It was one of those face shields, that guards from forehead to neck. Anyways, by the end of the game, Reid's face shield was completely foggy from him yelling and screaming all night. It was both gross and funny.
Overall, I couldn't be happier that the NFL started. It is by far my favorite sport and I hope to one day be able to write for them. We still have 16 more weeks plus the playoffs, so this is just the beginning baby!
