Favorite Jewish Holiday

 My Favorite Jewish Holiday

As Rosh Hashanah is approaching, I am already dreading the long shul services I will be attending. Rosh Hashanah is a nice time for family, but I feel that there are other holidays that fill a bigger place in my heart. Also, the fact that Rosh Hashanah is approaching means that Yom Kippur is also approaching, and I do not like fasting.

Passover is probably my least favorite holiday because there is nothing to eat that is good for my body. No matter what I do, I usually end every day of Passover with a sore stomach.

My favorite holiday is Channukah because there aren’t many downsides to the holiday. In my opinion, the only downside is that we don’t miss school for Channukah like we do for most other holidays. Chanukah does not guarantee gifts every night, but there are usually a few presents that I get over the holiday. Also, I love eating latkes and jelly donuts because, well, they just taste amazing.

Since Channukah lasts for eight days, there is a nice spirit in my community that lasts throughout the holiday. Activities at my shul and family gatherings are not uncommon (except during a pandemic). The same could be said about Passover and Sukkot, but I don’t like the Passover food or sitting outside and getting bitten by bugs on Sukkot.

To summarize, I feel that Channukah is the most amazing holiday to ever exist because there are not many downsides to the holiday.

Now, what is your favorite holiday and why? What is your favorite holiday food?

  1. Chanukah is also my favorite holiday because I love the food we eat and spending the holiday with my family. I also enjoy getting the presents from my family on some of the nights. My favorite holiday food would have to be potato latkes as well.

  2. Yair, I completely agree. Hannukah is also my favorite holiday because as you said there is no down side other than the fact that we don't miss school. That part is annoying, but at least winter break is a week later. I don't really go to synagogue, but I do agree that Yom Kippur is overall a sad day for everyone and it sucks to fast. I love that it is 8 nights because holiday season is just all around good vibes.

  4. Chanukah is my favorite holiday also. I love that it's a long holiday because it makes the whole week special. Even though we still have school during the holiday, at least you could look forward to celebrating at night. My favorite Chanukah food is the jelly donuts but without the jelly.

  5. I agree so much. Chanukkah vibes are just immaculate. Occasionally it'll get a bit chilly, the food's delicious, everything's just amazing. People tend to assume that we love Chanukkah so much just because of the presents, but to be honest, I usually get like 2-3 small presents total. I've never gotten a present every night, I just love it because of the vibes.
