On Friday, my sister and I were searching for someone's Disney Plus account that we could use in order to watch the new Mulan movie. Let me just say, it was not worth the $30. Mulan is one of my favorite Disney movies, and the new version of it did NOT portray the old movie at all. For instance, in the 2020 film, there is no Mushu, grandma, General Shan, the emperor's long white beard, and the scene where Mulan cuts her hair. They also gave her a sister and Mulan already knew how to fight before going to the training camp. Also, there are ZERO songs, except for the melody of "Reflection" during some parts of the movie. I was so mad because how can Disney film a movie without any songs?!?! After searching it up online, the movie was based on the old Chinese legend, not the 1998 film. In general, the Disney movie was really intriguing, but I was disappointed because I didn't feel like I was actually watching a remake of Mulan. I felt like I was watching a movie about a woman going into war who became friendly with a shapeshifter and eventually saved China. In my opinion, the Mulan 2020 film did not live up to the hype, and it left most Mulan fans disappointed. My advice to all of my readers is, wait until the movie is free to watch it because I still enjoyed it, but it just wasn't Mulan. Would you guys watch it even though this movie doesn't really represent the 1998 film?

I haven't seen the movie yet so I can't really talk on the subject, but what if you watched the movie through a different lense? Instead of looking at it like a Disney movie remake, look at like a seperate movie as a whole. Maybe that might give it a different meaning.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a big movie person, but am always looking for something I might enjoy. This is a very descriptive review, and I will not watch it. I do think you may need to temper expectations on a remake being similar though. Who wants to watch the same movie ?

DeleteThanks for the review. Your review is one of many other review that I have seen about the movie, with all of the reviews being negative, so I will not watch the movie. The fact that the movie has no songs is very surprising, as all of the other Disney remakes such as Alladin, and the Lion King had the original songs and even some new songs in them, and a lot of people would say that those two movies were even better than the originals.
