Coby Russo Week 2- First Day Back To School

Donna Klein Jewish Academy - Jewish Interactive

For the first time in six months, I finally physically went back to Donna Klein. The first day of “actual” school was pretty weird, but it was so so so so much better than sitting at home all day. I felt so overwhelmed because I haven’t come in contact with so many people in such a long time. We began the day in Zinman Hall where we got a brief overview on what the week would look like. Then, we continued our day going from class to class, but it felt so awkward because we had to stay socially distant from everyone with our masks on.

In each class, there was a very similar problem. The students who didn’t make it to class early enough were sent to the overflow room (Zinman Hall). Like, we didn’t sign up to come to physical school just to get kicked out of the classroom and sign in virtually from another room. I believe that there should be more room for classes so that everyone can fit, like using the MAC, USDA, and the other big classrooms in the cultural arts building. There are so many additional spaces Donna Klein could use so that kids won’t have to sign in to class virtually. They could also make Zinman Hall like two separate classrooms (like how we did when the air conditioning wasn’t working, just six feet apart) What do you guys think, should kids be sent to the overflow room and sign in to class through zoom, or should there be more room added so that everyone can fit into the class?

  1. Hi Coby, so I get your point. Its annoying coming to school and then being kicked into the overflow room, but I think it would be very chaotic because there would be so many classes in one space just in a bigger area.

  2. Hi Coby! I understand how you feel. After witnessing Isaac get kicked out of Judaics this morning, I do not believe in overflow rooms. They do not seem fair. I would enjoy some classes outside without a mask if that helped to solve the problem.

  3. Hi Coby! I agree with you that going to school just to do it online is annoying. That's one of the main reasons I decided to just stay home. I'd rather get more sleep and not have to try and look decent if I'm still gonna be on zoom. On the other hand, I also think that the overflow room is just for everyone's health and safety. Although our school is pretty small, the classrooms are smaller, and I think having too many people in one room could be dangerous because of the pandemic. While it's annoying, I think it's necessary.
