Hunter David Week 4 Blog - Fasting, Easy or Hard?

This past weekend was the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur. Every year during this holiday, one of the main customs is to fast for the entire day, leading to a “break the fast” on the final evening of the holiday. I have been fasting for about 6 years now I believe, maybe a year or so less, and every year I feel a bit different on whether the fast was easy or not. This year I decided to go to bed really late so that I could sleep really late and not spend much of the next day feeling hungry. Surprisingly, my plan worked and I woke up pretty late and really didn’t feel hungry until an hour or two before it would be time to break the fast. The hunger pretty much came out of nowhere and is something that is not the best feeling, especially when you are sitting near the kitchen most of that time. It felt great when I was finally able to eat some food and no longer have that feeling in my stomach. Seeing how successful my plan was, I am more than likely going to repeat the same thing again next year. This may be something that many of you can try to help make fasting even a little bit easier. If and when you fast, is it something that is easy or hard for you to do? Also, is there a tactic that you do that helps you not feel as hungry throughout the day when fasting?

  1. Hi Hunter, thanks for telling us about what you did to succeed this fast! I've never tried that method before, but I'll definitely keep it in mind for the next fast because it sounds like a good one. I didn’t find the fast too hard for the most part; I thought it was difficult only towards the end. The tactic I used was basically just trying to distract myself in any way possible, whether it be reading, talking with family, or playing a game. When my mind is focused elsewhere, not on food, it helps the fast pass by quicker and more easily!

  2. Hunter that's actually a really smart idea, I never thought of that. Fasting isn't super hard to begin with, but this makes it even easier. I'm probably going to try this out next year.
