On Friday, September 18th, Ruth Bader Ginsburg passed away. She served on the supreme court and changed the way women are seen and treated in society and under the law. RBG was and will always be a feminist icon. In honor of her passing, my family and I watched her documentary on Saturday. I have always heard about how amazing she was and how she was a feminist, but I never truly understood her impact until this weekend. I learned about her life and about all of the laws she helped pass or change, which helped both men and women. No matter one’s political views, she can be acknowledged as a hardworking and determined woman who fought with all her might to defend all genders, races, and everyone. The movie highlighted the cases she brought to the supreme court, in which she won 5 out of the 6. Each of these cases had to do with gender discrimination and were monumental in their time. Her dedication to her job ultimately made history. As she served and dealt with more cases, she continued to help women become independent under the law and be seen as equal to men. Her work will always be remembered and serve as an example to all men and women. Her famous quote, “women belong in all places where decisions are being made” will forever be motivation for women to work hard and reach their full potential. I am extremely interested in learning more about her and the American government/law system. I hope to continue to learn more about the roles of the house and senate and how the supreme court plays a roll in American law. Ruth Bader Ginsburg is an inspiration to me and all women, and help us remember that we are equal and deserve to be treated as such. Has RBG inspired you? If so, how?

I agree that RBG was a very great person in what she did even though I don't agree with a lot of her interpretations of the constitution. I also think that her passing away was very sad to hear. With this being true, RBG wasn't so inspirational to me for the mere fact that I just couldn't relate to her at all, but she was a great women and a great person.
ReplyDeleteI am very happy you wrote about her. She really is one of the most inspirational and influential people in History. Fighting illness out of raw dedication to her job inspired me to focus on my goals. I appreciate that you did not focus on the political aspect of her death and purely on her amazing life.
ReplyDeleteI agree with everything that you said here. I do not know much about her because of my disconnect to US politics, but she has definitely inspired people across the country to do what they think is right even if is not easy or comfortable. She will always be remembered as a hero to this country, and we would not be where we are today without her.
