I actually joined a sports team for once- Coby Russo, Week 13

Hey guys! Most of you know that I don't really participate in the Donna Klein high school athletic program, but that changed on Tuesday. Earlier this week, I decided to join the tennis team. The thing is, I've always wanted to play on the tennis team, but I was never able to because practices and games occurred at the same time as rehearsals and productions took place for the school's yearly show. This year is different though. Due to the Coronavirus, the musical was unfortunately cancelled, giving me the opportunity to finally play on the tennis team.
I haven't played tennis in a while. During a normal year, I would attend group lessons at The Bridges every week, but that stopped due the pandemic. So, I was going in with absolutely zero practice, but I was really happy to get back on the courts! It was also very pleasing to play alongside with some of my close friends.
When I got there, the coach introduced himself, set a few rules, then sent us out on the courts to play. The tennis coach had everyone go up against several other team members by playing a game called "Up and Down the River". I was really enjoying the practice until the conditioning. Oh my lord. It was so tiring, but I knew it was good for me. I also had in mind that one day I'll get more used to it and it'll become better and easier (to a point). Overall, I'm really happy that I was able to join the team this year, and I'm very excited for future practices and games.
Although I may have been a bit rusty and considered "uncoordinated" by a certain someone who shall not be named 😑, I still had a great time! Has COVID opened up any new opportunities for you guys?

  1. Hi Coby! I'm glad you finally decided to become athletic for once and it seems like tennis is super fun. Unfortunately Corona hasn't done really anything but shut down opportunities for me, but now at dance we have to constantly wear our masks. I don't think this really counts as a new opportunity but my stamina is great now! At competitions they don't require masks, so because I've been rehearsing all my dances and dancing with a mask on, I won't be so out of breath while I'm performing :)

  2. Hi Coby! i'm really excited that you also decided to play tennis this year. It's a really fun sport especially with friends and when the weather is so nice out this time of year. The conditioning is tiring the first few times but eventually it becomes better!

  3. Hey! I'm so happy that you decided to play tennis! It's so much fun! Also, I totally agree about the conditioning. For me it's so hard, especially the sprinting, but eventually we'll get better, hopefully.

  4. Hey Coby I'm happy for you that you decided to play tennis this year. Even if one isn't so good or experienced at a sport, just going out for a couple hours of the day and running around is a joy. I think the more you play tennis this season, the more you'll enjoy it, honestly I hope you do.

  5. Welcome to the tennis team Coby! I agree that the games the Coach sets up are pretty fun and conditioning is definitely the worst part. We all need to be grateful to be able to play tennis for the team during this time of COVID, and I am happy to have a friend on the team. See you out there.
