Jacob Abramchaev Week 12: NRA Files for Bankruptcy

This week the National Rifle Association (NRA) released a statement saying that they would like to become a nonprofit in Texas. They decided to file for bankruptcy, and this will help them continue their long term goal of constitutional freedom. I find it crazy that after being a company based in New York for 150 years, they’ve decided to move to a state that cares about their contributions to society. I never knew how toxic the political environment was in New York.

I don’t know much about the NRA, so I can’t really say whether or not I support what they do. I’ve just heard a lot of news about them in the past so I thought it was interesting why there even filing for bankruptcy in the first place. The NRA was sued by the New York Attorney General for illegal actions. They’re being accused of using millions of dollars that were supposed to go to charity, and instead, the senior executives used the money personally.

In my opinion, it looks like the NRA has been losing money and power over the years, and now there filing bankruptcy in order to cover up all of their illegal actions. They have been accused of many things over the years, but I find it surprising how the government has been so lenient with them. Lastly, I find it so interesting that there becoming a nonprofit when it says on its website that this has been its strongest financial position in years.

Do you think the NRA is making the right decision to becoming a nonprofit?

  1. Hey Jacob
I do think it is a good idea for the NRA to move to Texas and become a nonprofit. In my opinion, Texas is a better setting for them because of the political climate in big cities. I don't really know much about the NRA either so I can't say whether I support them or not. Changing to a nonprofit will give them less power as a lobbying group.
