On Wednesday, Donald Trump made history by being impeached for the second time while being President. The House of Representatives decided to impeach Trump after the attack that happened on the Capitol. The vote was 232 - 197 where 10 Republicans joined the Democrats in the vote on his impeachment. He was charged with crimes and misdemeanours. The House of Representatives requested to immediately remove himself from office, although he has only one week left, and disqualifying him from ever holding a position in office again. This impeachment has made history. No one has ever been impeached twice, and they have never been impeached so close to the time that they are leaving office.
They do not want to hold the trial before January 20th because of Biden coming oath of coming into office. President Trump issued a statement and said that he wants everyone to remain peaceful and that, "There must be no violence, no lawbreaking or no vandalism of any kind." He continues by saying that it is not what he stands for and that it is not what America stands for. The Republican leader Mitch McConell has come out and said that he believes that they need to focus on "facilitating a safe inauguration" for the next seven days because they will not be able to hold an honorable trial before then.
Republicans who voted that Trump should not have been impeached the first time around question what they should do this time. A Republican leader, Kevin McCarthy was worried that the impeachment would, "further fan the flames of partisan division", but also believed that the reason the attack on the Capitol happened was because of President Trump.
Do you agree with Trump being impeached although he has only a week left? https://www.nytimes.com/live/2021/01/13/us/trump-impeachment
What you found was very interesting Romi. I agree with Trump being impeached even though there's a week left in his term as his actions have proven that he is no longer capable of maintaining his duty as president of the United States. No matter if there was 1 week or 1 year left, when I president is no longer capable of completing his duties as president, than they shouldn't still be in office.
ReplyDeleteHi Romi. I completely disagree with Trump being impeached, especially since he only had a week left in office. Instead of wasting time, money, and effort on removing someone from power, the government should've worked together on the real issue at hand, which is the pandemic. It looks like they used this as a reason to just ensure he won't be able to run for president ever again. Regardless of what political side your on, the US has been so politically divided and this just makes it worse because one side is even more upset.
