I had the pleasure of watching UFC 259 with Jacob Abramchaev. It was very entertaining and here is my official review of what went down (talking only about the best fights). There were many fighters on this card that deserve to be remembered as some of the best the UFC has ever seen. First, we have to talk about the main event. Jan Blachowicz, Polish Light Heavyweight undisputed champion beat undefeated 21-0 Israel Adesanya (“The Last Stylebender”), African Middleweight undisputed champion. Adesanya took a risk and jumped up weight classes. He fought an incredible fight and arguably one of the first three rounds, but Jan Blachowicz won the championship rounds and dominated with his wrestling. In my opinion, Adesanya is still going to be in the UFC hall of fame and known as one of the GOATs. He is the best Middleweight in the world right now, and things did not go his way when he tried jumping weight classes (a very difficult thing). Dana White has acknowledged this and Israel said he will definitely be back for more. He has already defeated top contenders like Robert Whitaker and legendary Anderson Silva, so this small loss will not diminish from who he is as a fighter. In terms of Jan Blachowicz, there is no debate anymore. He is the best Light Heavyweight in the world right now, he has defended his belt multiple times, and he has beat unbreakable opponents, so therefore he deserves to be in the UFC hall of fame. Next, Amanda Nunes has yet proven herself again. She defeated Megan Anderson via first-round submission (armbar) and has shown the world that she is one of the best female fighters out there. She now has 21 total wins, 13 of which are by knockout and 4 of which are by submission. She has an incredible record and deserves to also be in the UFC hall of fame. Finally, a heartbreaking end to the Ajaming Sterling v/s Petr Yan fight after Yan throws an illegal knee to his grounded opponent. This was very disappointing considering that Yan was winning the fight and dominating Ajaming Sterling both on the ground and standing up. Luckily, both fighters said they want to run this fight back as soon as possible to truly show who is the best. I think both of these fighters are excellent and have the potential to be Hall of Famers, but they will both need to continue to prove themselves. I thought Ajaming Sterling was better until I saw him get picked apart by Petr Yan, and I thought Yan should’ve known better to just finish the fight by boxing. Ultimately, All the fights during the night were incredible and I didn’t discuss some good ones like the Dominick Cruz fight or the Islam Makhachev fight, but these three title fights were the highlights and were absolutely outstanding. Does anyone disagree with my assessment of any of the fights or fighters and if so why?
Sorry for the confusion. I accidentally pasted last weeks blog into this one. This is the UFC 259 review.
ReplyDeleteHey Ethan, I did not follow the results of the UFC event, so thanks for informing me. I don't know much about UFC in general because the only exposure I have is from the time we watched Mayweather vs. McGregor. Also, that was MMA I believe, but to me it is the same thing. I do think MMA is interesting in general thought, and would like to watch it more often.
