Week 22, Aly Strauss, School Bus Crash Involving Tractor?

Week 22, Aly Strauss, School Bus Crash Involving Tractor?

Students were recently injured in a school bus crash involving a tractor-trailer. This occurred in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts in Boston. This occurred on a Tuesday when ten elementary students were on board the bus on a Tuesday morning when it suddenly collided with a tractor trailer!

Police stated that the bus was taking students to a private school in Shrewsbury when it crashed. Seven children as well as the bus driver were immediately taken to a hospital for ‘minor injuries’ These kids were in an age range of kindergarten to eighth grade.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation because this occurred by/at an intersection. According to the principal of the school, who is by the way furious about what occurred, and wants change stated that this is the second time that a bus has been struck on that road (Route 20). This crash also occurred at 7:30 am so obviously, most of the kids didn’t make it to school that day.

The principal is demanding change and so are the parents. One of the parents stated how this trauma can’t be undone, but it can definitely be prevented. How could you erase trauma of your kid being thrown over in a bus?

Wow! This is insane! You could only imagine the fear that parents have since this isn't even the first time that something like this has occurred. Imagine getting a call that your kid didn’t make it to school and is at a hospital. The parents and principal are furious and know that there needs to be change. It sucks how change is only realised after the problem occurs. How would you feel if this happened in your town? Would you let your kid ride the bus?

  1. Hi Aly. That's crazy! I don't think I'd let my kid take the bus unless it was necessary after this accident. I bet they'd be too scared to anyway. Personally, tractor trailers have always scared me, whether I'm driving or the passenger, and driving next to them always freaks me out. I understand how hard it is to drive a vehicle that large but a lot of times when there's a crash there's one involved.

  2. Hi Aly. Wow, this sounds terrible! Change definitely has to happen because children should not have to be scared to go on school buses. Parents should not have to be afraid to let their children ride on school buses either (especially since school buses put less pressure on parents to drive their children to school everyday). If I were a parent in Shrewsbury, I would not feel comfortable letting my kid ride the bus until the situation is much better and safer.

  3. Hey Aly, when I was in elementary school, I'd take the school bus to school everyday. This sounds very bizarre and terrible. Personally, I would send my kids on a bus because a crash like this practically never happens, but at the same time I'd be happy to drive them to school everyday, it just depends on the situation. How many kids were hospitalized from the crash?
