Romi Avidor Week 24 LaMarcus Aldridge’s Sudden Retirement
This morning basketball player LaMarcus Aldridge announced that he will be retiring from his fifteen year long NBA career. Aldridge is a veteran who has just recently been traded to the Brooklyn Nets. Sources revealed that Aldridge has been diagnosed with an irregular heartbeat which he then shared that he would start focusing on his health and family and put his basketball career to an end in order to avoid high health risks. He said that during his last game he played while dealing with his condition which caused him to have bad rhythm as the game progressed. Aldridge was very worried and said that it was “one of the scariest things [he has] ever experienced.” Aldridge was a very successful player from being a Hall of Fame candidate, to being a seven time all star player, to having more than 19,000 points in his career. He was able to establish himself very well.
When I read this I thought about how scary it must be to know that you have been playing a high intensity sport that needs a lot of movement and gets your heartbeat pumping while you have an irregular heartbeat. Although he didn’t know until recently, it is very scary to hear this because you never know what could happen. He is very lucky that they were able to diagnose it because if he took his career any further it would put his life at risk. I think he is very smart for putting his health first. Many people would not do that because they believe that they have worked so hard to get to where they did and they wouldn’t want to throw it away, but in his case it is very important for him to put himself first and to take care of himself. I believe that when it comes to a health situation you better be safe than sorry and this is the perfect example of taking the right precautions and being safe. Did you hear about this yet? Do you think that what he did was the right decision?
