Week 24, Aly Strauss, Nevada Suspends J&J Covid Vaccine

Week 24, Aly Strauss, Nevada Suspends J&J Covid Vaccine

Nevada recently suspended the Covid Vaccine J&J. The Nevada Health Response team did this on Tuesday after a pause was recommended by the FDA and CDC for the J&J covid vaccine. Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are still available though since nothing crazy has occurred with them (yet). They suspended the vaccine after receiving reports that six people developed "rare and severe" blood clots after receiving the J&J vaccine. Also, about 6.8 million doses of this vaccine have already been administered in the U.S..

Other states like California are quickly starting to follow Nevada’s lead. Also, the gender that is suffering from the shot is women. So far as said before, 6 women developed severe blood clots after receiving the vaccine. Since 6.8 million doses in the U.S. alone have already been given out, who knows how many others will suffer from the vaccine.

So far though the other two vaccines are good, but it’s still scary to think about what’s to come. Also, in the future, Nevada as well as other states are planning on upping the age to get the vaccine in order to protect people just in case a vaccine goes wrong in the near future. They are definitely going to do way more studies on the J&J vaccine and then they will make the decision to keep the vaccine or toss it aside and just give the other two. It’s still early to even know if the other vaccines will work properly. In my opinion, it kinda sucks that some places will soon require the vaccine because we still don’t know the negative effects.

Wow! It’s crazy to think that this would happen! I’m sure though it’s been in the back of people’s minds. What do you think about this?

  1. Hi Aly. My sister actually got the J&J vaccine so when my family heard about this we freaked out! I sort of knew something would probably happen because I'm pretty sure the J&J one wasn't approved or something like that? That's still so scary to think it could happen. I was worried I would get a bad reaction when I got my Pfizer vaccine, but imagine having a reaction like this! I think it's good they're suspending it even though it's only affected a few amount of people in comparison because we still don't know how many more people it could harm and it seems dangerous.

  2. Hi Aly. I think it really sucks for these 6 poor women that had the terrible luck of suffering these blood clots after the JJ vaccine. With that being said though, with only 6 cases out of almost 7 million of those vaccines administered, I don't know if maybe people are overreacting a little bit? I completely get it for the six victims, they should be outraged and sue JandJ for millions of dollars, but for other people considering if they should take the J and J, they should just wait a couple more weeks and see what happens after they start giving them out again, because I'm sure changes will be made.

  3. Hey Aly,

I think it doesn’t make any sense that the J &J vaccine was suspended for 6 bad outcomes out of 7 million positive ones. Additionally, I got the Fizer vaccine last week because I was unable to get the J&J. Thank G-d I did not get sick or anything, but I have heard that many people are getting sick from the second shot. Finally, I think people are overreacting a little bit about this as no vaccine for anything is 100% effective, and unless you have some major pre-existing health conditions, you most likely are not at risk for this. Do you think there is one vaccine that is the best out of Moderna, Fizer, and J&J?
