I couldn’t think of a topic for this week’s blog, so I am reviewing a book I read over spring break(I know- boring). I decided to read the infamous We Were Liars by E. Lockhart. There is a side on TikTok called booktok where people who like to read recommend books and give reviews- I have found myself stuck on booktok for a while, but it gets me more excited about reading. We Were Liars has been highly recommended by EVERYONE. People say it is the best book they have ever read and left them breathless, but I don’t really agree. The book was good, but not as amazing as everyone hyped it up to be.
The book is about 4 teenagers who stay on an island during the summer. 3 of the kids are related, and their grandfather owns the island and built all of the homes on it. The book takes you through their exciting summer adventures through the memory of Cadence, the eldest grandchild. She experienced an “accident” during one summer and suffered from severe memory loss. After a summer away from the island, she returned and tried to remember everything that had happened. Her family and friends were advised to keep everything a secret so that she could remember the events on her own. They were worried that Cadence would experience too much trauma if they just told her what happened. I don’t want to spoil it, but I will admit that the ending was a complete surprise and definitely shocking. I was left staring at the ceiling late at night, so that’s when you know it was a good read. I think I was expecting so much more because of what I had heard, but I probably would have liked it more if I hadn’t set such high expectations.
If anyone has read this book let me know what you thought of it! If you don’t enjoy reading, this book would be a great option because it is a super easy read that becomes a page-turner towards the end. Did anyone read any books over break(or in general) that they recommend?
Here is a short video that a student made for an English project that I feel captures the book perfectly without any spoilers:

Hey Romy, I actually read one book over break that I have been reading for the past few weeks now. It is called "The Brink" by James S. Murray (from the Impractical Jokers) and Darren Wearmouth. it is a horror/mystery genre book and the 2nd of its 3 book series. I would definitely recommend it for anyone interested in a mystery and/or horror-like genre.
