Eden Richman Week 15 - Composting

Earlier this week I was surfing the web, as one does, and was researching whether there is a composting service where I live. If you don't know what composting is, it is a process of turning food and other scraps into soil.
I have started to think about composting, but I don't really want to have my own composting bin and am not ready for that commitment. The results I found were unpromising, I checked the Boca Raton website (where I took a detour to take a covid safe pledge and got a badge) and also the Palm Beach County website. I found no government-run composting service, but what I did find is a website called compostnow.org which is a privately owned composting service.

How it works is that when you sign up, CompostNow brings a bin to your house, and you fill it up with all of your compost. Then CompostNow comes to your house, takes your compost away, and puts a clean new bin in its place. You can either choose to get composted soil delivered to your house for free or donate soil to local farms.

I thought that it was an amazing idea, so I signed up but it is not available in Boca yet. The good news is that they only need 500 people in Boca to sign up to be able to bring CompostNow here! If you want to help out I think signing up for this is an awesome way to help not only the environment but also support farms.  All you have to do is go to the CompostNow website, click "try it free" in the top right corner, then fill out all of your information. It will then bring you to a page that says that they are not available in your area but you can join the interest list.

I also found another website called https://sharewaste.com/, which is a crowdsourcing site that connects people with scraps to people who are already composting. You have to bring your scraps to the people instead of getting them picked up.

  1. Hi Eden! I love your blog about composting! I agree about how amazing is is and it is so great for our community to start getting involved. This company is definetly gonna get noticed because of how inspirational it is, and how well it helps people turn compost into it's original state!
