Romi Avidor Week 22 72 Days in the Hospital

A 39 year old man named Alfredo Hercules checked into the Catholic Health’s Mercy Hospital after feeling flu-like symptoms. When he checked into the hospital, they found out that he had Covid-19 pneumonia. During his time in the hospital, he was not allowed to hug or touch his daughters once. He was in the hospital for 72 days, and finally on March 24th he hugged his two daughters, Isabel, nine, and Safiah, seven for the first time since early January. Alfredo said that "[i]t was very stressful being away from all my girls”. All the nurses and doctors were very proud of Alfredo for pushing so much and making it this far because he was “...in bad shape” when he first came to the hospital. Even though Alfredo was released from the hospital, he was still sent home with an oxygen tank. Once he was released, they made him a little party. Alfredo said that "[w]hen you are away from home for so long, you start to miss the little things you took for granted.” I chose to write about this because it really hit me. I could not imagine not being able to hug one of my parents for that long especially when they are so sick like the way Alfredo was. I am very attached to my family, so for me it would not be easy. I agree with Alfredo and that when you see things like this happening you really don’t realize everything you take for granted in your day to day life. During these tough times, it is very important to take advantage of every moment you have with your loved ones and to always be there for one another through everything. Could you imagine not being able to hug your parents whenever you desired? https://abcnews.go.com/GMA/Family/dad-hugs-daughters-1st-time-months-surviving-covid/story?id=76684607&cid=clicksource_4380645_20_film_strip_icymi_image

  2. Hi Romi, this story was very interesting and unfortunately too common in the past year. I can't imagine being away from my loved ones for so long. Also, it is amazing that this person was able to recover and come back to a normal life after spending so much time in the hospital.

  3. Hi Romi,
this story is really sad but relieving at the same time. I cant imagine not being able to touch or be near any of my family members. Im sure it was very scare for him and for his daughters as well. Im happy to hear that he was released from the hospital and was able to be back together with his daughters again.
